787 Dreamliner Rolls Out... sorta

Technically it rolled in.

Well after all the hype, and all the anticipation... and of course, all the work that I put into this airplane program, the media gala was a tad disappointing, to say the least. I felt like I was in the middle of a television infomercial for our product - note: it was broadcasted on multiple channels across the country and the 41 countries, as well as streaming live on Boeing.com.

So the day started with us, Roldan, John, Jessica, and myself, heading to the Everett Factory. The great Boeing of course, made the lamest attempt of shuffling 15,000 people into the seated event area, by having everyone line up and gather onto school buses which would drive you the equivalent of three blocks to the 787 assembly line. Wow. That sure did not work. So after an hour of standing in line, and about 10 minutes til the event start time, they just let everyone through the gate and walk towards the event, all while giving the option to ride the bus. SMART and LEAN. So everyone finally made it to the event on time. Wow. Smart thinking Boeing!

Anyway, the whole event can be seen, I'm sure, on Boeing's website or Youtube, or anywhere else on the internet so I won't go into too much detail. They did give us sovereigns! Yea, a wonderful movie reel-looking aluminum can with the contents of a toy 787 airplane, a tie pin, a pair of the cheapest possible plastic sunglasses ever (made in china), and yes, a Jewel Case that was actually EMPTY. Haha!! Actually, it contained a coupon for a DVD that wasn't yet made yet of the roll-out ceremony.

Wow. Anyway, let's just say I was a bit underwhelmed by the whole event, with alot of it in part to poor planning for getting people in and out of the event. I also thought the whole Q&A section with Scott Carson and Tom Brokaw was really, really, corny and unnecessary.

Oh well, let us continue to work on this monster. :)

BTW, thanks to Jessica for being my partner in crime for this, and Roldan for driving us to the event and letting us drink at his place. :)
